Meet the Artist:
Dennis Mensah Bonsu
Dennis Mensah Bonsu, 31-year-old life-long artist, began his art journey working with hand-woven bracelets and necklaces at an early age learning from his grandmother. Dennis was inspired by Ghanaian nature and culture, and found that his acrylic paint and canvas art brought him closer to Ghana as a country and the Ashanti as a tribe.
Funded by the Vollum Institute, AVDS commissioned Dennis to paint the four-by-six foot mural located in the AVDS Lounge which carries a message of love and togetherness. Dennis shared that his inspiration for this piece embodied, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of [their] skin, or [their] background, or [their] religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. Different continents, different countries with different colors, but one people living under one umbrella. The umbrella represents the world together as one.”

Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
