AVDS Recommendations for
Increasing & Supporting Racial Diversity at OHSU

AVDS began its mission by meeting with students, administrators, and faculty to get a feel for the state of diversity and inclusion efforts. After seeing interest from AVDS, many administrative leaders within the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine requested that AVDS create recommendations for improving diversity. AVDS presented the following recommendations to OHSU administration.

October 2020 - AVDS letter to Dr. Danny Jacobs, Dr. Derek Du Vivier, and members of the OHSU Anti-Racism Task Force
In this letter, the Alliance for Visible Diversity in Science (AVDS) provides feedback to OHSU leadership on the racial equity initiatives and work the institution is proposing and echoes the frustrations expressed by OHSU’s Black Employee Resource Group (BERG).  The letter emphasizes the following of critical importance:  listen to the BIPOC community, stop exploiting BIPOC labor, and interrogate actions.

July 2020 - REVISIONING OHSU's APPROACH TO RACIAL EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION
This document describes the Alliance for Visible Diversity in Science's (AVDS) proposal for reimagining and decentralizing racial equity and inclusion (REI) work at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) by creating multiple REI Centers to serve different populations of the institution.  As presented in the document, the REI centers would actively work to dismantle systemic racism through community building, data collection, and policy improvement.  This proposal was originally presented to OHSU Board of Directors on June 30, 2020.
